ESOL Workshops Term 1, 2021

In Term 1, 2021, Tools 4 Teachers will be offering three ESOL workshops. Workshop 1 is for teachers, Learning Support Co-ordinators or school leaders who are new to ESOL.

The other two workshops are for teacher aides but also suitable for teachers, Learning Support Coordinators, and SENCOs. Ideally, participants would enrol for both of these workshops but they can choose to attend only the first workshop if preferred. They need to have attended ESOL Workshop for Teacher Aides: Part 1 before enrolling for the ESOL Workshop for Teacher Aides: Part 2.

New to ESOL

9.00 - 3.00 p.m.
St Columba Centre, 40 Vermont Street, Ponsonby, Auckland

This workshop is specifically designed for leaders and teachers who need to upskill with how to meet the needs of English Language Learners (ELLs).

It will cover:

  • Enrolment procedures to identify ELLs
  • Using the English Language Learning Progressions (ELLP) to access ESOL funding
  • Using the ESOL funding appropriately
  • Key resources for working with English Language Learners
  • Using the ELLP Pathway resource
  • Setting up an effective ESOL programme.

Suitable for:

  • Leaders with responsibility for ELLs
  • ESOL teachers
  • SENCOs/Learning Support Co-ordinators

ESOL Workshop for Teacher Aides: Part 1

A practical workshop for teacher aides who are supporting English language learners, either in their classroom or in withdrawal programmes. This workshop will cover:

  • Practical strategies that can be used to build language knowledge.
  • The specific challenges for ELLs in reading and writing and how to help students with these challenges
  • The key resources available and how they can be used effectively

Suitable for:

  • Teacher Aides
  • Teachers with responsibility for ESOL programmes
  • ESOL teachers
  • SENCOs/Learning Support Co-ordinators

ESOL Strategies for Teacher Aides: Part 2

9.30-2.30p.m.
St Columba Centre, 40 Vermont Street, Ponsonby, Auckland

A practical workshop for teacher aides who are supporting English language learners, either in their classroom or in withdrawal programmes. Content will include:

  • An introduction to the English Language Learning Progressions
  • How to build oral language skills with English Language Learners
  • How to teach new vocabulary to English Language Learners
  • The best resources for Teacher Aides to use.
  • Planning practical tasks to use with English Language Learners

(Please note that you need to have attended the Part 1 workshop to enrol in this workshop)

The cost for the New to ESOL workshop is $225 + GST per teacher. A discount is offered for schools who enrol three or more people for both workshops. The discounted rate is $205 + GST per teacher, per workshop.

The cost for the Teacher Aide workshops is $195 + GST per teacher. A discount is offered for schools who enrol three or more people for both workshops. The discounted rate is $185 + GST per teacher, per workshop

Morning tea and lunch will be provided at both workshops.
