Workshop 1: Using the English Language Learning Progressions (ELLP) matrices formatively

29 July, 2019

9.00 -3.00p.m. Distinction Hotel, 100 Garnett Ave, Te Rapa, Hamilton. $230 + GST per person which includes morning tea and lunch

This workshop will focus on assessing students accurately on the matrices and then how to use the information formatively. Content will include:

·     Analysis and interpretation of the information and using it to inform teaching.

·     What resources should I be using?

·     How does the ELLP information link to the SELLIPS and ELIP resources?

·     How can I use these resources for my planning?

·     Practical learning experiences to use in teaching.

Suitable for:

o     ESOL teachers and leaders . Classroom teachers, SENCOs

Workshop 2: ESOL Strategies for Teacher Aides

 30 July, 2019, 

9.30 – 2.30 p.m. Distinction Hotel, 100 Garnett Ave, Te Rapa, Hamilton. $210 + GST per person which includes morning tea and lunch

 Although the target audience is Teacher Aides, this workshop is also suitable for all classroom teachers who are looking for support with practical strategies to use with English Language Learners, either in the classroom or in withdrawal programmes. 

Content will include:

·      Practical strategies that can be used to build language knowledge.

·      The specific challenges for ELLS in reading and writing and how to help students with these challenges.

·      The key resources available and how they can be used effectively.

Auckland Workshops Term 3

ESOL Strategies for Teacher Aides (Workshop 1) - 28 August 2019

9.30 -2.30 p.m. St Columba Centre, 40 Vermont Street, Ponsonby, Auckland. $225 + GST per person. Morning tea and lunch will be provided.

A practical workshop for Teacher Aides who are supporting English Language Learners, either in the classroom or in withdrawal programmes. Content will include:

·      Practical strategies that can be used to build language knowledge.

·      The specific challenges for ELLS in reading and writing and how to help students with these challenges.

·      The key resources available to teacher aides and how they can be used effectively.

ESOL Strategies for Teacher Aides (Workshop 2) - 29 August 2019

If you have attended Workshop 1 for Teacher Aides, either in April, 2019 or are planning to attend on the previous day (28 August), this workshop will follow on from the first workshop.

Again, it will be a practical workshop that focusses on:

  • How to build oral language skills with English Language Learners

  • How to teach new vocabulary to English Language Learners

  • The best resources for Teacher Aides to use.
